Maria Parham Franklin Behavioral Health

To better serve the residents of Franklin County, Maria Parham Health engaged HMK Architects to help re-open this shuttered facility that included a Geriatric Behavioral Health Unit. Subsequently, the healthcare system sought to expand those services to incorporate an Adult Behavioral Health Unit consisting of 20 new patient rooms and support spaces. Design elements such as large windows with shatter resistant glazing and a calming finish scheme aim to help this facility maintain patient safety without compromising the aesthetics of the unit. With a centrally located nurse station, the staff is able to maintain continuous supervision, a crucial element in regards to behavioral health management. Each private room has a view to the outdoors as well as a soothing wall color. Each public space offers visibility from the interior as well as views to the exterior, which work together to create a calming atmosphere for healing.
