Wilson, North Carolina, is a growing community less than an hour from the state capital. In a town best known for whirligigs and barbeque, Wilson Medical Center wants to be known for quality healthcare close to home. To convey that message, the hospital has partnered with HMK Architects to modernize its aging facilities, some of which date back to 1964. The project, which is being completed over a number of phases, seeks to provide a new healthcare experience for the community. New units for behavioral health, cardiovascular health, sleep study, dialysis, and patient rooms have already been completed, along with new infrastructure for mobile imaging services and improved circulation. Recently completed phase 2 includes renovated surgical services, a Women’s and Children’s unit for the facility, a new outpatient surgery unit, and additional patient rooms. The completed phases have already shown that Wilson Medical Center is rooting itself as a community partner for generations to come.
