St. Paul Christian Academy had a problem. They needed more classrooms, but they had no more space on their campus to expand. HMKA worked with St. Paul to find a solution and found there was only one way to go: up. New classrooms were added on top of an existing building, and a new monumental stair tower was designed as the central architectural element of the project. The tower connects three different building levels with vertical circulation and emergency egress, and provides a central focal point for the building. Although this project did not cover a large footprint, it required extensive coordination and careful attention to detail to make the project a success.
