Logan Regional Medical Center presented many interesting challenges to the Design Team. The existing building was located on a very narrow site between a mountain and a river, which could only be accessed by one road leading onto the site. The most cost-effective and functional solution was to build a new separate structure containing the Emergency Department and Women’s Center and connect it to the existing building via an enclosed bridge that spans the main access road onto the site. In addition to the new ER/Women’s Center building, the project included a new main entrance canopy and lobby that provided a much-needed facelift for the front of the existing hospital. Since this project was completed, the hospital has become a major focal point and source of pride for this rural mountain community.
