The project consists of a new freestanding 60-bed patient care building on the existing psychiatric hospital campus. A “swing” concept was utilized in the design to accommodate the constantly changing patient population housed within the new building. Three nurse stations can serve up to six patient units organized around identical cores. These units can be reconfigured based on changes in patient type and demand. The building exterior was designed to retain the southwestern style and character found throughout the existing campus. The interior incorporates extensive natural light, neutral colors and wood tones to create a pleasant healing environment.
