Starr RMC Athens - Intensive Care Unit

Currently under construction, the new 10-bed Intensive Care Unit addition at Starr Regional Medical Center in Athens, TN, will double the hospital’s critical care capacity, expanding its ability to provide high-quality, life-saving care to the community. This project directly supports the hospital’s mission of delivering compassionate, patient-centered healthcare by increasing access to critical care services in a modern, thoughtfully designed environment. Working within a highly constrained site—bounded by existing structures, parking, and access drives—the design maximizes available space while ensuring seamless integration with the hospital’s existing facilities. A reconfigured pad for mobile imaging units, along with new canopies, enhances patient and staff access to essential diagnostic services. One of the project’s defining architectural features is its sloped roof, which strategically screens rooftop mechanical equipment from view, maintaining the visual harmony of the hospital’s setting within the rolling hills of east Tennessee.
